As we engage prospects throughout our organizations, in a variety of ways, we need to utilize information they willingly share to build our databases and prospect pipelines. Growing our databases is a key element in establishing ourselves as venture philanthropists – by being creative and persistent in data acquisitions. Leveraging everything we know. Looking for hidden opportunities to capitalize on. Brian Dowling.

Free webinar from HEP Development Services. Maximizing matching gift revenue is more important than ever in these challenging times. In spite of our recent economic downturn many non profits according two recent surveys are actually growing matching gifts. One new trend is to include matching gifts right on the on line donation page. Making donors aware of the matching gift opportunity is one of the greatest challenges to nonprofits.

Major Gifts Report.

February revealed a surge in new Major Gifts. From the first half of the month I tracked $154 million in major gifts that was surpassed in the last few weeks with $305 million more for a total of $459 million for February, 2010. This includes only those major gifts that I find in my day-to-day survey and is not the total amount of giving. Take note of more evidence of what I refer to as Pockets of Philanthropy in 2009, when you review the campaign results from the Jewish Hospital and St. Mary's Healthcare in Louisville plus the over goal report from the United Way in Roanoke, VA. Congrats all around. Terry Burton from Dig in Research.

This Fordham University e-solicitation focuses on the importance of gifts to the annual fund. With upbeat music, voiceover and vibrant photographs, this appeal is interesting and engaging. The overall theme of the appeal is that gifts to the annual fund provide specific resources for students so “to them, it’s personal.”

Michigan State University partnered with MainSpring to create two year e-solicitations for donors and non donors. The donor version is to thank those who gave throughout the year and emphasize the power and importance of each gift with tangible examples of the work Michigan State University is doing. The non donor piece, with a slight copy change, is designed to inspire alumni, friends and family who have not given to consider the power and impact their gift can make by supporting the University today.

Major Gift Report

Generosity can be viewed in terms of the dollar amount of the gift as well as the timing of such. This morning a big round of applause goes out to last week’s collection of donors, especially the Ford Foundation. The $80 million dollar commitment to American workers is above and beyond the norm of foundation giving. It speaks to the sincerity of the men and women who make the call as to where the money can have the best impact, where they can make a difference. Terry Burton from Dig in Research.
