University Relations (UR) provides leadership in building enduring
public trust, understanding, and support for UC Davis and its mission of
teaching, research, and public service. The total UR operating budget is
approximately $15.8 million and is comprised of approximately 130
employees. UR manages fundraising campaigns for the central campus,
university communications, alumni services, and directs the campus'
government and community relations. There are five functional units
within UR: Alumni Relations; Development; Finance, Information
Management, and Administrative Services; Government and Community
Relations; and University Communications. The Finance, Information
Management, and Administrative Services (FIMAS) unit consists of six
subunits: Advancement Services; Ceremonies and Special Events; FIMAS
Administration; Finance and Business Services; Foundation Accounting and
Reporting; and Human Resources and Organizational Development (HROD).
Advancement Services maintains and operates information systems in
support of University Relations, and is responsible for policy,
processing, and recording private gifts and grants totaling 102,000
transactions and $83 million, and maintaining biographical information
for 500,000 external constituents. Advancement Services provides
centralized technology services to departmental staff and to departments
UCD-wide. Services provided includes management of essential networks,
servers, workstations, client programming support, data/information
management, data analysis, system auditing and compliance, formulation
and implementation of data policies, consulting, procedures development,
and user documentation and training. Advancement Services is the office
of record for the alumni and donors of the University of California,
Davis.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of Advancement Services, the
Sr. Manager of Gift and Data Services assumes a leadership role in the
management of UCD Advancement information, which consist of electronic
records of over 550,000 alumni, donors, and other constituencies that
are engaged in relationship building activities utilized by the UC Davis
community. The incumbent is expected to oversee the system analysis and
implementation of a data-base system (tier 1) administration, which
includes Gift Policy Administration, Gift and Data acceptance and entry,
user training and technical support services to both internal and
external clients. In the absence of the Director of Advancement Services
and when necessary, the Sr. Manager of Gift and Data Services will
manage the Advancement Services unit. The Sr. Manager of Gift and Data
Services is responsible for the data integrity of all electronic
information housed in the Advancement Information System, AIS (alumni,
donor and constituent records) and serves as the lead advisor for staff
responsible for maintaining and enhancing the highly secured and
confidential data on alumni and donors of the university. The Sr.
Manager of Gift and Data Services is also responsible for the business
strategy planning and development, design, identification and
implementation of systems/process improvements to the Advancement
Information System, including oversees all business documentation
processes and protocols. The Sr. Manager of Gift and Data Services will
work closely with Central Development and UC Davis-wide development
officers and other Advancement staff, the Office of Research, and
Extramural Accounting on establishing effective information management
strategies and goals to support the campus-wide fundraising program at
UC Davis.
Requirements: Management and leadership ability to coach and direct
employees to perform and meet mutually agreed upon performance
objectives. Ability to create professional development plans for staff
that aligns with the strategic goals of the department. Skill in
prioritizing assignments, which accurately reflect the relative
importance of job responsibilities. Direct knowledge and experience with
relational databases, preferably on Oracle or equivalent direct
experience in information management administration, oversight
responsibilities for database administration, or senior level project
management with database administration background. Demonstrated ability
to develop and implement data management projects; proven ability to
guide and support system applications developers to ensure that database
access designs conform to database integrity rules. Proven statistical
and data analysis skills to sample and test existing databases,
determine error rates, establish minimum quality standards, and
summarize and effectively present resulting information to affected
parties. In-depth understanding of data acquisition methods, techniques,
and sources (including electronic sources) to continually upgrade the
quality of data. Superior organizational and analytical skills.
Demonstrated superior skill to establish priorities, organize tasks, and
direct effective implementation of tasks in a high-pressure environment.
Ability to think creatively and apply innovative concepts to systems
programming. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of data update
procedures to be able to analyze and evaluate system design
specifications and prototypes, and recommend more effective data
maintenance and update mechanisms and functions if required. Ability to
use good judgment, confidentiality, and discretion in communicating with
colleagues and constituents. Special Conditions of Employment: This
