There are a few advantages to putting your videos on YouTube:
1. You don't have to develop technology in-house to deploy on your web site.
Once posted on YouTube, you can imbed videos into your own site and others such as Facebook, blogs, wikis, etc. with minimal effort once.
2. By setting up your own organization's YouTube channel you "protect"
your brand to some extent. This is true of all of the social networking sites.
3. The #2 search engine is actually YouTube.

I would add a cautionary note for consideration by any institution exploring options for capturing credit card details.
You might already be aware that in June of 2005 the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards were made effective and they have an impact on any organization that accepts credit card payments. The penalties for being out of compliance with these standards can be severe and I would recommend to everyone that they become well versed in these standards which directly impact all of our credit card transactions and those include gifts, event payments and purchases in our book stores and gift shops, etc.
If discussions about PCI-DSS compliance have not yet taken place at your respective organization, I would highly recommend that such discourse be initiated as quickly as possible so that steps can be taken to assure compliance and avoid the penalties from our credit card vendors.

A few other considerations on the Kintera Acquisition by Blackbaud:
1. Reflects the "commoditization" of prospect screening. Most of the data sources these services use are similar. The value added will continue to be in the analytics to do database segmentation, and with some of the vendors, the ability to do direct appends of wealth/asset information directly to your database. We'll probably see more screening consulting services offered as value added by other vendors.
2. Consolidation in the industry, economies of scale and scope in the online services area. It's a good competitive strategy
re: GetActive-Convio and other vendors in the space.
3. Allows Blackbaud make additional inroads into providing software as a service, as they did a number of months ago with the e-tapestry ac ...

What are you doing with Web 2.0 and other “new” technologies such as Facebook, MySpace and others. The survey should only take a few minutes of your time. Online version. Print version.
More surveys.

Changing culture is often difficult but there are some basic strategies centering around job descriptions/performance and accountability that can help change an organization.
Every employee should have a line or two in their job descriptions on their web responsibilities. Even clerical staff can be responsible for deploying content within the CMS, Intranet, etc. We should be mentioning this at the onset of the hiring process.
The other piece is accountability. If someone is reponsible for a web site, are they evaluated on traffic? Are they required to provide reports that are included with the rest of the monthly reporting cycle?
How do we provide the right professional development to make an organization more "web centric" overall, rather than just having communications or technology staff und ...

Can we really expect to use web 2.0 to change the way our advancement and development cultures communicate?
Although most of these tools are readily available, they still don’t integrate well into out “conventional” applications.
For example, what about the “Daily Gift Blog” instead of the Daily Gift Log (a report)? The blog could allow registered users in Development to post comments on gift ...

Remember the motto that Lotus used to have? “It’s as easy as 1 2 3.”
When the Lotus spreadsheet was released it was a very powerful tool compared to other spreadsheets. Because of the differential functionality, it seemed a little more complicated than other products, so Lotus branded it a little differently by showing how easy it was to enter the data and then create charts and graphs to quickly analyze your business.
Many of our most important marketing opportunities are through e-newsletters, and recently, when updating my subscription preferences to a number of newsletters, I quickly realized that many of us have forgotten to make it ...

We recently had the privilege of hearing Vint Cerf, one of the “founding fathers” of what we know as the “Internet”. So here’s some stream of consciousness thoughts from someone who’s been in “the business” since before many of us were born.
The title of the talk was “Uncovering the Science in Computer Science” where Vint was speaking to the need to re-formulate the way we think about computer science, and where and what this “science” needs to evolve to in the future if we are to be more successful.

We need to apply our ideas where they will do the most good. Be very clear on ideas that you thought might not have been great, but that could eventually lead to a practical implementation of something. Your idea may have been a little too far ahead of its time and maybe the tool just didn’t exist. The “Internet Bubble” of a few years ago is a prime example. Much money lost, but survivors capitalized R&D, and for all the failures, we ended up with ideas that worked, and technology tools to support them.
What tools are available, and how do we maintain what we currently have?
Select your tool set based on where you need to go vs. where you’re currently at. i.e. We all know HTML, but content management as a tool makes more sense for implementing and training staff than investing a lot of money in a new HTML editing tool.
Who makes decisions on your programs and services? For ...
